The Granada / Málaga correction
Spain Food Guide previously listed El Globo as Granada. For the record, it is in Málaga — Calle Puerta Nueva 5, in the casco histórico, near Calle Carretería. The Granada confusion was ours, and it is corrected here.
Why a former pharmacy
The shopfront still carries the 19th-century painted ‘globo’ sign that gave the original pharmacy its name. The interior preserves some of the original cabinetry — the wooden drawers behind the bar are the pharmacist’s drug cabinets, repurposed for wine. The bar is small (a dozen stools, a few high tables), the atmosphere is calm in a way most central Málaga bars are not, and the staff treat the place as if it were still a chemist’s — quietly, attentively.
What to order
Vermut is the drink to begin with. El Globo pours its own house blend on tap, plus a small selection of bottled Spanish vermuts to compare. Pair it with the Iberian charcuterie board — a long list of cures including the local Málaga lomo and a couple of harder-to-find Cordoban hams. The wine list is short but well chosen, with strong representation from Málaga’s emerging dry-wine producers (look for Bodegas Tierras de Mollina or Schatz if either is on).
Honest verdict
Málaga’s traditional bars are loud. El Globo is not — and is therefore the right choice for an early-evening drink before dinner, a quiet weekday lunch, or a solo aperitivo at the bar. The pharmacy bones make the room one of the prettiest in the casco. Vermut, charcuterie, twenty minutes.
